Adobe Spark Page

The final part of the episodes that I wanted to create was title cards. In animation, a common practice that many shows use are title cards that showcase the title of the episode and very stylistically show the theme of the episode. Here are a few examples:

Adventure Time

I really like the art style of Adventure Time‘s title cards as they are very detailed in contrast to the animation and they are very aesthetically pleasing to look at. This is the style I would have liked to replicate however, I do not possess the enough skill to recreate them in such detail and find it hard to replicate with other processes.

I did however really like the Dexter’s Laboratory title card designs. They use very basic titles with limited images to create their cards while still being able to clearly showcase what the episode will be about. Example below:

Here are the results of my own title cards, I decided to use the simplistic values of the Dexter’s technique and apply that to my own cards.

 

For the Electronic Press Kit submission, I created a Facebook Page for the series and shared the developmental video for the backgrounds. I also created a special profile picture for the page which will be used for the YouTube account also, where I will share the final episodes.

Audio

For the audio of the cartoons, I wanted to use sounds that are representative of classic cartoons and showcase the ‘over-the-top’ style that they have. I used a variety of royalty-free sources for the audio work. The main sources for the sound effects were from https://www.zapsplat.com/sound-effect-category/cartoon/. The music that I used were from incompetech.com by renown royalty-free music contributor, Kevin MacLeod.

For the project the animation for the entire project is now finished. Processes that I used for each episode usually was to try and recycle as many pre-animated sections as much as possible. This saved a lot of time in the animating process and meant that I wasn’t wasting any time when animating sections that I already had made up. The main notable reoccurrence that is used throughout all three episodes is the crow. Within each episode, the crow has the same animations at the start and end of each episode. Though this does save a lot of time for me, it does bring a sense of cheapness to the animation as it is very noticeable that it’s recycled. I do feel that if I had a bigger timeframe for the animation, then I would take the time to make sure each animation is unique to each other which enhances the look of the whole piece.

From this point in time, the next process would be to add sound and then combine it with the intro and title cards.

For the last few weeks I have been animating the major scenes for the cartoons. I have imported all of the backgrounds and assets into the After Effects file and then animated each scene at a time, while referring to my storyboards for placement and size reference.

For the characters, I duplicate the initial composition so that whenever using multiple compositions within scenes, any changes made will not change the values for other  scenes. I then animate the character separate to the scene. Below is an example of the composition of the crow being animated separately to the scene.
